Scene I

Woman: Hello! My name is Mary. I live in the village nearby. I have a husband, but we are not happy. We don’t have a child. What should I do?

Witch: I can help you.

Woman: Who is that?

Witch: I am a clever witch.

Woman: Good morning!

Witch: I know your dream. One, two, three…

Woman: Oh!

Witch: Take this seed. Plant it in the flowerpot.

Woman: Thank you! Thank you very much!

Scene II

Woman: Here is my flower. Look! It is very beautiful, isn’t it?

Thumbelina: Hello! Are you my mother?

Woman: Yes, yes, I’m your mother and I am very happy. You are so tiny girl. Not bigger than my thumb. I’ll call you Thumbelina.

Thumbelina: Oh, my dear mother, I’m very tired. I want to sleep in my flowerbed

Scene V

Mr. Beetle: Hello, my fairy lady! What’s your name?

Thumbelina: Good morning! My name is Thumbelina. And who are you?

Mr. Beetle: I am Mr. Beetle. Be my wife. You are the most beautiful beetle I have ever seen.

Thumbelina: I don’t know.

Mr. Beetle: You must be glad to get such a wonderful husband. Let’s go, I will introduce you to my friends. This is my bride Thumbelina.

Beetles: She is so ugly.

Beetles: She has only two legs.

Beetles: She has no feelers! She can’t fly and hop

Scene VII

Thumbelina: It’s winter now. It’s cold and there is a lot of snow.

Swallow: Help me! Help me, dear girl!

Thumbelina: What’s wrong with you, dear Swallow?

Swallow: I hurt my wing. I’m cold. I’m hungry. I’m thirsty.

Thumbelina: I can help you. Here are some seeds for you. Then I have some water in this jar. And you can have my scarf.

Swallow: Thank you, dear girl!

Mouse: Thumbelina, where are you?

Thumbelina: I am here.

Mouse: I have a very good news for you. Mr. Mole wants to marry you. Your wedding will be in spring.

Thumbelina: Oh, no! I wish spring will not come.

Scene VIII

Mouse: Mr. Mole has come. He wants to marry you. You are a very happy little girl. Good morning Mr. Mole, isn’t she beautiful?

Mr. Mole: I wish I could see. But I am blind. Have you any wishes, Thumbelina?

Thumbelina: I want to see the bright Sun .

Mr. Mole: The Sun? Your wish is very silly. Maybe you have another one?

Mouse: Wish, my dear, he is very rich! Have you any ideas?

Thumbelina: No, I haven’t.

Mr. Mole: Ok, you may go out but come back soon.

Thumbelina: Oh, dear Sun. You are so bright! Thank you for being so kind.

Swallow: Good morning, Thumbelina!

Thumbelina: Good morning!

Swallow: Why are you so sad?

Thumbelina: I am very unhappy. An old blind Mole wants to marry me.

Swallow: I can help you! I am going to fly to the South! Come with me!

Thumbelina: Thank you!

Mouse: Where are you going? You can’t do it!

Flower spirits: Hello! Welcome back! But who are you?

Thumbelina: Hello! My name is Thumbelina. My friend, Swallow, brought me to your country. May I live here?

Prince: Nice to meet you, Thumbelina. I am the prince of the Flower spirits. I loved you from the first sight! Would you marry me and be the Princess of the Flower Spirits?

Thumbelina: Yes, I would. But I have no wings

Flower spirits: Here are your wings.

Thumbelina: Oh, thank you! I am the happiest girl in the world!

Swallow: Soon, the Prince and the Princess got married and lived happily ever after.
