Literature is any type or style of writing or book.

A genre is a specific kind or style of writing. It is a category of literary composition

 

The two major literary genres are:

Fiction – stories that are not true

Nonfiction – stories that are true

 

The third literary genre is Poetry. Poetry can be written in any way, shape or form. Often has rhyme or rhythm. It is usually not a narrative, has shorter sentences and no paragraphs. Poetry can be about any topic, both fiction and nonfiction.
